KCCD Hosts Nonprofit Leadership Training for SOFIDA and the African Immigrant Community!

On February 6, 2016, Korean Churches for Community Development (KCCD) in conjunction with The Solid Foundation (SOFIDA), KCCD’s Affiliate Member, held a nonprofit and church leadership workshop in Santa Clarita, CA, with over 50 prominent leaders and members of the African immigrant community attending. Topics covered included creating a sense of common and shared vision among organizational and church leaders, how to articulate an organization’s vision and mission to the community, how to assess and tap the gifts and talents of your congregation for community growth, how to create a win-win partnerships situation with the community, and how to leverage resources, access funding and create synergy.

Dr. Ken Barnes, Director of Community Relations and Education of SOFIDA spoke about how happy and excited he was in bringing KCCD’s expertise and leadership through Hyepin Im and thrilled to be an Affiliate Member of KCCD. He asked for God’s blessing for this program and for the attendees to be blessed. “A very insightful workshop well delivered which calls on the attendee to action. Thanks a billion to the leadership of KCCD for collaborating this workshop with SOFIDA for the Ghanaian immigrant community”

Dr. Barnes praised the workshop afterwards. “Thank you for the workshop! It was the ‘Bomb!’ It has been the talk of our community!”

Pastor Sam Otoo, Head Pastor of Solid Foundation Chapel and Board Chair of SOFIDA, also provided remarks. “We at SOFIDA are grateful to Ms. Hyepin Im and KCCD for this workshop. The workshop has enlightened us and rekindled our determination to shine our lights in our community.”

With the theme “Shining Your Light”, Hyepin Im, KCCD President and CEO, led the workshop, sharing KCCD’s model and vision, along with providing leadership training for those starting their own nonprofit organization. She mentioned of KCCD’s track history, having assisted pastors and nonprofit organizations for the past fifteen years to obtain grants, scholarships, and build partnerships with funders, corporations, and government agencies, such as the White House, Fortune 500 companies, etc.

“Today I’m very excited and grateful to be here. The friendship that has been extended to our community from the Ghanaian community has been wonderful and I believe that this friendship, which began last year, will only continue to grow. I hope that some of the lessons learned today, that you will be able to take with you, for the Ghanaian community and the greater African immigrant community’s light to bless the world and bless yours. I want to especially thank Dr. Ken Barnes of SOFIDA, Pastor Sam Otoo of SOFIDA, KCCD Board Member Dr. Jinha Park, KCCD staff, and everyone else for their contribution.” stated Hyepin Im.

The participants also engaged in group exercises in identifying potential partners and funders for their own community project. Groups presented their projects, which included homeownership fairs, career day for youth, and mental health services.
