KCCD 15th Anniversary Gala & LA Riots 25th Anniversary Kick-off

For the past 15 years, KCCD has provided hope, voice and light to underserved communities and impacted lives through our various initiatives which have often been a “first” in the Korean/Asian American community. These initiatives include homeownership, foreclosure prevention, financial literacy, youth workforce program, research, advocacy, job training, mental health, affordable housing, affordable care outreach, disaster readiness, leadership training and capacity building, church and community leadership institute, Young Ambassadors, and healthy marriage initiative.  KCCD has also worked to strengthen and lift up the faith community’s engagement, contribution, impact and partnership with the broader community through public and private partnerships.

We invite you to join us at the KCCD 15th Anniversary Gala Dinner to be held on Tuesday, November 15th at the historic Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

Key KCCD programs

  • Foreclosure Prevention

In 2007, KCCD began offering foreclosure assistance and prevention services to address the growing foreclosure crisis. We are a select number of agencies in Los Angeles County to offer Keep Your Home California services, a mortgage assistance program designed to help unemployed individuals, those that are behind on their mortgages, and if their mortgage payment is unaffordable. Our counseling services have assisted over 3,000 families in foreclosure crisis, and helped to save over $90 million in mortgages from going into foreclosure.

  • Homeownership

KCCD Homebuyer Education Classes prepares low-to-moderate income and/or first-time homebuyers for the home purchasing process. The 8-hour class using NeighborWorks curriculum provide lessons on key topics including down payment assistance programs and special loan products for first-time homebuyers, obtaining a mortgage, importance of credit and credit-building, the home buying process, predatory lending and laws to protect homeowners, and protecting your investment. KCCD has partnered with various lenders and financial institutions to have guest instructors to facilitate topics in their field of expertise, such as mortgage, credit, or real estate. KCCD is one of eight approved housing counseling agencies in the City of Los Angeles that provides certificates as a requirement for down payment assistance programs. The certificate is also used for prospective homebuyers in other government and bank-sponsored down payment assistance programs and loan products. To date, KCCD has helped to secure over $1.4 million down payment assistance to low-income homebuyers.

  • Job Training and Placement

Since 2002, KCCD has trained a range of disadvantaged and underserved adults and youth from various programs such as the Transitional Subsidized Employment (TSE) Job Training program from the City of Los Angeles in collaboration with the Worksource Centers, Americorps VISTA, the Summer Youth Program, Computer classes, and by also providing internships to students from partner universities and schools. These programs equip adults and youth with critical administrative and leadership skills, as well as experience with life skills, self image, reporting, soft skills, presentation skills, administrative office skills, government & public relations, organizing press conferences, writing press releases, public policy research and advocacy, contacting media, marketing and social media updates, videotaping, accounting, creating budgets for programs, event programming, fundraising, partnership development, and navigating resources. Participants have the opportunity to contribute and propose new projects or program ideas and even lead projects. In addition, as part of KCCD’s commitment to our job training program, participants are provided with off-site training opportunities such as grant writing and media relations training as well as opportunities to attend special events and meet elected officials, media, and key leaders – both at local and national levels. KCCD has trained a few hundred participants who have shared many successful testimonies and who have been placed into permanent jobs. KCCD is partnered with 4 Worksource Centers and California Public Utilities Commission to provide job placement and enhancing computer literacy skills.

  • Computer Literacy

KCCD in partnership with CETF and CPUC has been successfully running an innovative hands-on computer literacy education program to bridge the digital divide amongst underserved families and seniors, specifically Korean and Latino, in Los Angeles County. In an effort to increase computer literacy in underserved communities, KCCD offers a 10-week computer class to assist low income families/individuals and senior citizens. This class helps to eliminate economic and educational barriers for these communities by teaching vital technical skills. The class teaches participants how to navigate the internet, use key office software such as Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, and use social media. KCCD offers two 10-week classes at a time (English/Spanish) several times throughout the year. Classes have expanded to include youth technology classes for students between the ages of 13-17 to receive higher education preparation using technology.
